Heart Demon

Perhaps on some winter night, you hear someone softly singing beyond a wall:

"A white-cloud heart in feathered robes of the Daoist school,

A qin, a sword, and a painting brush.

Fresh snow, a red brazier, yellow-sprout wine,

Reading the Purple Star and Dongting Scriptures by night."

The lingering sound is like the music of heaven.

You follow the voice through the snow and suddenly see faint lights in the distance.

After walking another quarter hour, you enter a bamboo grove, and the scene opens up all at once, warm air washing over you.

Then you see a white crane dancing gracefully and a red-robed dragon maiden playing the qin and singing in harmony.

You are astonished and rub your eyes.

When you look again, you are only standing outside your own door, with withered plants on the street.

People in the world all speak of immortals, but they do not know that perhaps they are right beside you.
