How to read raws in English

Every novel here links to the Chinese or Korean platform that publishes it. You read it there, translated into English as you go. Everything below is free and works without making an account anywhere. Pick your device and follow the steps.

First: is it already in English?

Popular novels often already have an English translation. Search the novel's name, its English title from its page here, or its original title just under it, and see what comes up.

English titles vary between translations, so if one title finds nothing, try the other. Newer and lesser-known novels usually haven't been translated yet: that's what the steps below are for.

On a computer

Chrome

  1. On a novel's page here, click Read at …. The platform opens in a new tab.
  2. Open the chapter you want to read.
  3. Right-click anywhere on the page and choose Translate to English.
  4. To translate every page on that platform automatically: click the translate icon at the right of the address bar, then ⋮ → Always translate (Chinese or Korean).

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the chapter as above.
  2. Click the translate icon in the address bar (or right-click → Translate to English).
  3. Tick Always translate from Chinese (or Korean) so the next chapters translate by themselves.

Safari (Mac)

  1. Open the chapter as above.
  2. Click the translate icon in the address bar (it appears on pages in another language) → Translate to English.

If nothing appears, reload once the chapter has fully loaded, then try again.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open this site in Safari and tap Read at … on a novel.
  2. On the chapter, tap the aA button at the left of the address bar.
  3. Tap Translate to English. (The first time, iOS may ask to enable translation; tap Enable.)
  4. Each new chapter: tap aA → Translate to English again.

Use the platform's website in Safari, not its app: apps can't be translated this way.

On Android

Chrome

  1. Tap Read at … on a novel and open the chapter.
  2. A bar appears at the bottom offering to translate; tap English. No bar? Tap ⋮ → Translate….
  3. In that bar, tap ⚙ → Always translate so the following chapters translate automatically.

Microsoft Edge (free in the Play Store)

  1. Open the chapter in Edge; it offers to translate the page. Tap Translate.
  2. Prefer it to Chrome if Google's translation reads awkwardly for a novel: Edge uses Microsoft's translator instead.

Use the platform's website in the browser, not its app: apps can't be translated this way.

Korean novels: Papago reads better

Papago is Naver's free translator and the strongest for Korean. No account needed.

  1. On the chapter, copy the address from the address bar.
  2. Go to papago.naver.com (or open the free Papago app), set Korean → English, and choose Website translation.
  3. Paste the address and open it: the whole page comes back in English.

This works for free chapters. For chapters you've bought, Papago can't see your login, so use your browser's translation (above) on those.

Best experience: AI translation in the page (computer)

AI translates novels far more naturally than the tools above: dialogue reads like a person wrote it and names stay put. With a free extension and a free Google AI key, it happens right on the chapter page, with the original and the English side by side. Free, about five minutes to set up once, and it needs a Google account (for the key).

  1. Install KISS Translator, a free, open-source extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Install links and instructions are in its guide.
  2. Get a free Gemini API key at Google AI Studio (sign in with Google, Create API key). No payment details needed.
  3. In KISS Translator's settings, choose Gemini as the translation service, paste the key, and set the target language to English.
  4. Open a chapter and press Alt+Q to translate it.

Menus change between versions: if a step doesn't match, follow KISS Translator's guide (its FAQ covers Gemini errors). Without a key, KISS still works free with Google's and Microsoft's translators, side by side. Google's free tier has daily limits and may use the text to improve its products.

AI by copy-paste (works anywhere, including phones)

No extension? An AI chat assistant translates just as well: paste the chapter in and read the result. It takes a free account (ChatGPT, or Gemini with a Google account) and a little copy-paste per chapter.

  1. Open chatgpt.com (or the ChatGPT app) and start a new chat.
  2. Copy the prompt below with the button, paste it into the chat, but don't send yet.
  3. On the chapter, select the chapter text (Ctrl+A / long-press → Select all) and copy it.
  4. Paste it under the prompt and send. Keep using the same chat for the next chapters, so names stay consistent.
Translate the chapter below from a Chinese or Korean webnovel into natural, fluent English.
- Keep the tone, humor and dialogue style. Don't summarize or skip anything.
- Keep names consistent with earlier chapters. Romanize Chinese names in pinyin and Korean names in Revised Romanization.
- Keep cultivation and martial-arts terms readable (e.g. Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, sect, dantian, murim).
- Output only the translation.

Chapter:

Some platforms don't let you select chapter text; use your browser's translation there. Translate only for your own reading: sharing translated chapters breaks the platform's terms and takes readers away from the author.

Other options

Commercial translation extensions (such as Immersive Translate) are more polished than KISS Translator, but they require an account and their AI engines are paid. Worth a look if you read a lot; not needed to get started.
