Mysticism Casework in the Misty City

Reason and steam cover the world, while ether and spiritual essence move stealthily among humankind.

Russell had originally thought he had come to a world no different from his previous life, but by chance he discovered a mysterious-arts request panel.

[Requester: Spirit Board]

[Introduction: This was a spirit board once used by a tribal shaman on a New Continent. After being killed by an expedition army, his intense resentment infused the ether layer of the spirit board.]

[Request: Use this board to carry out a séance.]

[Reward: Spiritual vision.]

...

[Requester: Statue of King Solomon]

[Introduction: This statue was made by an anonymous sculptor when the academy was founded. Legend says the sculptor modeled Solomon’s face after the true appearance recorded in some ancient book.]

[Request: On the spine of the stone book in the statue’s hands, there is a line of Hebrew. The statue hopes someone will read this line aloud in Hebrew and remember it.]

[Reward: Wisdom begins to awaken.]

...

[Requester: Hermes Jade Stone Tablet]

[Introduction: Said to be a tablet engraved by Hermes, the “Thrice-Great God” himself. Within it dwells an ancient intelligence that “enlightens all things,” waiting for someone able to bear it.]

[Request: Walk the world with wisdom and compassion, enlighten those lost on the road, become a guide of knowledge and spirit, and step onto the path of a “world mentor.”]

[Reward: Philosopher’s Stone]

“Truth does not exist; there are only stories.”

Years later, Russell Crowley opened the Akashic Records and stood in the city that had not yet been built, smiling softly.
