Journey to the West: Starting by Beating Laozi at Chess

Su Xun arrived in the Spring and Autumn Period and became a prince of the Zhou Dynasty.

Single-mindedly seeking pleasure, he became highly accomplished in zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting, and even created many classics in advance. Unexpectedly, this made him famous instead, turning him into a “gentleman” renowned throughout the world.

He thought this life would pass happily, but one day he suddenly realized that the person he had always talked with so happily, the one who was both teacher and friend to him, was actually Laozi, the founder of Daoism and the one of whom it is said that “purple qi came from the east for thirty thousand li”!

That was not all. Soon after, Su Xun discovered that this world was actually…… the Journey to the West world!!

Then Laozi was none other than Taishang Laojun, the “ancestor who created heaven and earth”!?

“Su Tong’er, you’re here again today? As long as you beat me in this game of chess, I’ll take you as my disciple. How about it?” Laozi said with a smile.

And so, Su Xun became Taishang Laojun’s only true disciple, and the first thing he had to do was…… go west past Hangu Pass together with Laozi and transform the Hu into Buddha!
