He helps the Defenders deal with New York’s crime, defeats the biological monsters created by Oscorp, joins the Avengers to handle world-level crises, and sometimes has to deal with multiverse matters in Spider-Verse.

Oh, and most importantly, he stops every misfortune that should have happened.

And the key to all this is that Peter Parker himself always chooses to become Spider-Man; it is not the spider that chooses him.
